The convict has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar. He was arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in April 7, 2013, from near Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Sector 17, Chandigarh, and recovered 3.3 kgs of charas from his scooter on a tip off.

The NCB alleged that accused Sanjeev Kumar had purchased the consignment from a Kullu-based resident in Himachal Pradesh.

The investigations revealed that Sanjeev Kumar was a habitual trafficker of contraband and was earlier arrested twice by the Punjab police and HP police in 2008 and 2009 under the same charges. He was lodged at Ropar and Mandi Jail, respectively.
