Markfed to set up food processing unit at Jalandhar

Punjab Markfed is setting up a state-of-the-art food processing unit at a cost of Rs 43 crore at Jalandhar. Agricultural and processed food products export development authority (APEDA) of India has agreed to provide a grant of Rs 10 crore for setting up of this unit.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between managing director, Markfed, Karmjeet Singh Sra and secretary, APEDA, Santosh Sarangi.

Sra said the project, which is likely to be operational by June 2014, will not only generate employment but also give boost to agricultural exports from Punjab. It will also help in crop diversification.
