MC removes encroachments, garbage in special drive

In the wake of a special anti-encroachment drive, enforcement wing of the municipal corporation of Chandigarh on Thursday removed encroachments from various markets in the city and challaned nearly 170 violators.
During the course of the drive, the MC team removed encroachments at Sectors 8, 9, 10, 11, 17, 22, PGIMER in Sector 12, Manimajra and in areas surrounding Sukhna Lake. Ten truckload of items were seized during the drive. The drive was carried under the directions of additional commissioner Lalit Siwach and was supervised by superintendent Kashmira Singh.
Sanitation campaign in Ram Darbar colony
To educate residents, the sanitation wing of the civic body organised an awareness campaign-cum-cleanliness drive in the Ram Darbar colony.
The campaign was accompanied by regular sanitation work carried out by 20 additional safaikaramcharis in small groups under the close supervision of the senior inspectorate staff. Tractor-trolleys and cyclerickshaw carts were deployed for removing roadside garbage.
Lime dust was sprinkled at all vulnerable places to avoid nuisance created by flies; the pest control wing also sprayed the area with insecticides. A rally was carried out by the safaikaramcharis, conveying that dry waste should be seperated from the rest of the garbage.
