A minor school girl committed suicide in Rajouri district, about 100 km from Jammu , after she was allegedly gangraped by a person running private school, his two colleagues and a student.

The victim committed suicide on July 24 at her home in village Khargal following which villagers blocked the Rajouri-Jammu highway for seven hours.

The girl's family told police that the deceased had told her mother that she was called to the school by a student Wasim and another person Jaffar, who runs a private academy in village Khargal, on July 20.

Though the school was closed for summer holidays, Wasim told her that she has to come for some important work.

The girl claimed to her mother that she was forcibly put into a car and taken to an isolated place where Wasim, Ifthikar Hussain and Aurngzaeb raped her and left her there. She also said the accused threatened her of dire consequences if she told about the crime to anyone.

The girl's mother later disclosed the crime to other members of the family, after which they decided to lodge a formal police complaint. The family members alleged that the area SHO refused to lodge their complaint.

Feeling humiliated and frustrated, the girl consumed poison on July 23. She was taken to the district hospital from where she was referred to government medical college, Jammu.

"The police have arrested two of the accused. We are waiting for the medical report after which a formal case would be registered and action taken against the accused ," said Nowshera sub-divisional magistrate Rajinder Khajuria.

Nowshera ASP Purshotam Singh said that on the complaint of the locals, a case had been registered against the accused.

The locals kept the girl's body on the highway and blocked traffic. They demanded cancellation of registration of the private school and suspension of the erring SHO. The protest was lifted after assurance by administration officials regarding their demands.
