Minors accused for rape, granted bail

A local court, on Monday, granted bail to two minors-one 8-year-old and another 10-year-old, accused of raping their five year neighbour against bail bonds of Rs 20,000.

Based on the complaint of the mother of the victim, the UT police had registered the case against these two boys. In a complaint to the police, the victim's family alleged that the accused took the victim to a secluded area and made an attempt to rape her. When the victim raised an alarm, the neighbours rushed to her rescue.

On the other hand, the police said the family of the accused and victim were known to each other and had old enmity. In the preliminary investigation, they had found no evidence against the accused and hence the investigations were still on. A case of sexual assault under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, has been registered in the Sector 31 police station.
