National Human Rights Commission issued notices to the Karnal SP and Haryana education department on Wednesday, asking them to submit a report within four weeks on the incident in which a child allegedly died of shock after he was locked up in his school.
The notices were issued to Karnal SP and principal secretary, education department, an NHRC spokesman said.
"The principal secretary, education department in particular has been asked to inform the Commission about any action taken by his department in the matter," he said.
The notice was issued after the Commission took cognisance of media reports that Pankaj Singh, a student of a private school in Gharaunda sub-division, was allegedly locked up in a dark room in the school to reprimand him for his negligence on December 27 last year.
The boy was hospitalised in February 2012 and discharged on February 11. He passed away the next day.
The bereaved family reported the matter to the local police on February 20, alleging that the private English medium school had caused the death of their child.
