Panchayat in Sirsa bans DJ music for 'vulgarity'

The panchayat of Rupawas village in Sirsa district has banned the playing of music by DJs during functions. The panchayat has decided to impose a penalty of Rs 21,000 on the violators. The panchayat was of the view that the DJ music promoted 'vulgarity' in society.

The panchayat of Rupawas village in Sirsa has banned the playing of music by DJs during functions and decided to impose a penalty of Rs 21,000 on violators. The move came after the panchayat found DJ music responsible for “promoting vulgarity” in the society.

The decision was taken during a village meeting at panchayat bhawan on Sunday.

According to village sarpanch representative Kehar Singh, the panchayat took the decision after some villagers lodged complaints about problems being faced due to the uncontrolled use of loud music during weddings and other functions held in the village.

“Earsplitting music played by DJs, especially at weddings, not only causes noise pollution but also harms the children trying to study. It also encourages crudeness in theyouth. While dancing, sometimes under the influence of liquor, they misbehave with women leading to any sort of violence,” said Singh.

The panchayat also resolved to launch an awareness campaign in the village against alcoholism and decided to remove the liquor vend from the village from the next year.

The panchayat also decided to deal with the issue of encroachment in the village. The villagers have organized an 11-member committee to take care of the implementation of these decisions.
