Pepsu Road Transport Corporation to induct 250 new buses

The Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) would induct 250 new buses into its fleet over the next few months. In the first consignment, the chassis of 20 buses has reached the PRTC head office. These would soon be sent to Jalandhar and Jaipur and rolled out as new buses on the roads.

The PRTC has fixed a target of getting 50 buses ready every month. Under this scheme, the routes lying dormant would also be made operational.

Stating this, an official spokesperson said of the buses in the PRTC fleet, 684 belonged to the corporation while 284 were under the kilometre scheme. PRTC managing director Manjit Singh Narang has chalked out a scheme for inducting the new buses.

Narang stated that due to shortage of staff, many buses had to be grounded. He said 200 conductors had been recruited recently, while another 200 had been kept on the waiting list.

The central workshop incharge, executive engineer DK Sood, said the chassis belonged to Ashok Leyland, adding that an agreement with five companies had been signed.
