Plan for river water cleaning: Badal

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal today directed concerned officers to come up with a comprehensive plan to clean rivers in the state within the next three years, according to an official release.

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal today directed concerned officers to come up with a comprehensive plan to clean rivers in the state within the next three years, according to an official release.

Presiding over a meeting regarding cleaning of rivers here, the chief minister reiterated the commitment of the state government to clean the rivers of Punjab by ensuring zero discharge of chemical effluents, sewage and sludge water into it, the release stated.

Stressing on the need to adopt a holistic approach towards cleaning of rivers, Badal said no one should be allowed to pollute any river by throwing untreated water into it.

He also directed officers of local bodies to check the feasibility of recycling sludge water and using it for irrigation after treating it.
