Power dept employees protest against possible move towards privatisation

UT Powermen Union will strike work on July 12 against the UT administration's move towards possible privatisation of the electricity department. The decision was taken in a protest rally before the department's offices in sectors 17 and 19.

UT Powermen Union will strike work on July 12 against the UT administration's move towards possible privatisation of the electricity department.

The decision was taken in a protest rally before the department's offices in sectors 17 and 19. Union president Ram Saroop led the rally in Sector 17, while union general secretary Gopal Dutt Joshi led the Sector-19 rally.

Saroop said that instead of filling up vacant posts and procuring material, the administration was more interested in privatising the department.

The union demanded the administration to install 11-kilo-volt lines and insulated conductors by replacing all defective meters.
