Pracheen Kala Kendra to celebrate 200 monthly musical baithaks

Pracheen Kala Kendra will celebrate its record achievement of holding 200 monthly musical baithaks in the city by staging a ballet on Friday at 7pm at the Tagore Theatre here. The event will be staged for free for art lovers.

Pracheen Kala Kendra will celebrate its record achievement of holding 200 monthly musical baithaks in the city by staging a ballet on Friday at 7pm at the Tagore Theatre here. The event will be staged for free for art lovers.

The theme of the ballet is, ‘The changing facets of Durga,’ featuring 61 Kathak and contemporary dancers from Shobhniyan Kala Kendra in Ludhiana. Kendra registrar Shobha Koser said acclaimed artiste Purva Puri from Jaipur gharana and her troupe would also perform in the show.

Puri added that the 70-minute ballet was steeped in classical and contemporary dance traditions and infused with the the me of women empowerment.

“To finalise the script, I interviewed women from all se gments of society and explored the secondary status given to them in our holy books and scriptures. From the celestial Draupadi to Damini, women have always been on the receiving end,” said Puri, who is ar med with 40 years of learning under her mother and celebrated guru Shobha Koser.
