A 22-year-old student of Panjab University was allegedly shot at by an unidentified person in Sector 37 in the wee hours of Tuesday. The victim has been identified as Yugam, who is pursuing a course in hotel management from PU. He received a bullet injury in the stomach and his condition was stated to be stable.
The victim had gone to his friend Karanveer Singh’s house in Sector 37 to celebrate the latter’s birthday. Simranjit Kaur, elder sister of Karanveer, had thrown a surprise party for him at their house and had invited Yugam and other friends, including Akash Bhel, Akash Arora, Sameer and Tony Sharma.
They reached Karanveer’s residence in Sameer’s Hyundai Accent car.
Akash Bhel and Sameer told mediapersons that they cut the cake at midnight and continued to party till around 3am.
In the meantime, Yugam came out of the house to attend a phone call and saw a man sitting inside Sameer’s car, they said.
The duo claimed that when Yugam questioned the man, he said some miscreants were trying to kill him and he was hiding in the car.
SHOT IN STOMACH
Yugam entered into an altercation with the man, who allegedly shot him in stomach with a revolver. He also allegedly opened fire at Akash, Sameer and other friends who came to Yugam’s rescue.
They said the accused fled on a motorcycle and his three aides, who were in a car, also escaped. They failed to note down the number of the motorcycle and the car.
The duo claimed that they put Yugam in the car to take him to hospital, but ran out of fuel near the Sector 37 roundabout. They informed a police control room (PCR) van stationed nearby, which rushed Yugam to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).
A case of attempt to murder under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Sector 39 police station.
