Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Rupnagar Amarjit Singh Sandoa was on Saturday booked for allegedly molesting a woman, police said.
The case was registered based on a complaint from a woman, who is the owner of a house which was rented to Sandoa in Giani Zail Singh Nagar. In her complaint, the woman said that she had rented her house at Giani Zail Singh Nagar in Rupnagar to Sandoa for ~30,000 per month in October last year.
Sandoa vacated the house in May but did not pay the rent and electricity and water bills for April this year as well as the amount for the damage caused to the house, which was estimated to be around ~3 lakh, she added.
The woman said she contacted Sandoa several times, but he did not pay any heed to it. She had even contacted AAP Punjab chief Bhagwant Mann and co-president Aman Arora in this regard.
She said on Friday evening, when she and her relative Satinder Dhaliwal from Chandigarh reached his house no.320 in Giani Zail Singh Nagar, he came out of the house and sat in a Scorpio vehicle .When she asked him to pay his rent, he abused her and pushed her back as a result of which she fell down. He also caught hold of her hand and dupatta, she alleged.
He threatened to kill her if she asked for her money again.
Sandoa, however, refuted the allegations and termed the registration of the case against him politically motivated.
He said that he had launched a crusade against corruption and raised his the voice against injustice in the district, which did not go down well with the government and the administration. He claimed he had not even touched the woman.
Rupnagar senior SSP Rah Bachan Singh Sandhu said fair investigations will be conducted into the case. Meanwhile,Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema demanded immediate arrest of Sandoa.
