The notification, issued as per the decision of the state cabinet taken on August 28, would be applicable to all Group A, B, C and D employees.

Clarifying that the option is available to those retiring on or after October 31, 2012, a government spokesman said the option would be available to only those employees who would fill the required performa and submit it to the head of the respective department up to three months before the date of retirement. Once submitted, the option would be final.

During the extended period of service, the employee shall be entitled to pay equal to the pay last drawn by him. However, if a promotional post is available, he shall be eligible for consideration and also get the relevant pay if chosen. The key provision, which aims to delay the state government's liability, is that the employees opting for extension would get all retirement benefits after completion of the extension period.
