Punjab to install CCTVs in buses

After facing heat in the Punjab and Haryana high court over Moga molestation and death case, the state government has finally invited tenders for installing close circuit television cameras (CCTVs) and the digital recorders in the state transport buses.

After facing heat in the Punjab and Haryana high court over Moga molestation and death case, the state government has finally invited tenders for installing close circuit television cameras (CCTVs) and the digital recorders in the state transport buses.

To begin with, cameras and digital video recorders would be installed in 100 buses - both from Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) and the Punjab Roadways - said a government spokesman.

Surveillance cameras would also be installed at 18 depots and three bus stands.

The state government has also given an assurance in the high court that it was all necessary steps to regulate the public transport system.
