Restart counselling process for UIET, demand applicants
After the high court ruled that the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University (PU), must also include those applicants who were rendered ineligible when the institute changed the admission criteria for those applying for BTech in the sports category, other students who could not apply due to the changes in criteria have demanded that the department should hold registration for counselling again.
Sanjeev Khanna, a parent, said, "Many students have been left out due to change in criteria. Now if the high court has ruled that admission criteria cannot be changed during the process, the department should reschedule the admission process."
The department, after a meeting, had announced on its website that it had disqualified certain candidates who had been registered successfully earlier, but did not fit the new criteria, leading them to move the high court against the decision.
In one of the cases, the high court had ruled that the decision of changing the criteria in-between was absolutely wrong and the student must be considered for admission, while in another case, it gave interim relief to the student, directing PU authorities to include the student in counselling. A final decision is still pending in this particular appeal.
