Rickshaw puller gets two years in jail for possessing heroin

A rickshaw puller on Monday was sentenced to a two-year imprisonment for possessing heroin. The court of additional district and sessions judge Roopam Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict: Vakil Ahmed, 45, a resident of Nayagoan.

The UT police had arrested Vakil on July 21, 2013, from Makkan Majra during checking. As per the police, he was carrying a polythene bag that he threw away on seeing the cops.

The police allegedly recovered 10 grams of heroin from the bag, following which Vakil was booked under various sections of the NDPS Act.
