Sources revealed that the letter received by the government railway police (GRP) in Ambala on Sunday was written in Hindi and English languages and is claimed to have been written on behalf of terrorist groups Babbar Khalsa and the Indian Mujahideen. The letter also mentions the names of some groups owing allegiance to Khalistani militants Jagtar Singh Hawara and Balwant Singh Rajoana and includes a threat to the GRP SP, said sources in the police.

GRP station house officer Sukhvinder Singh said a case under sections 124-A (sedition) as well as 506 and 507 (criminal intimidation) had been registered against unidentified persons, adding that further investigations were on.

He said that the place from where the letter was posted could not be ascertained immediately since the stamp was not legible.

GRP DSP Dharambir Punia confirmed that security at the two Ambala stations had been beefed up, adding that they were not leaving anything to chance even though similar letters had been received in the past too.

Hindustan Times had reported on Sunday that two alleged operatives of Lashkar-e-Taiba had conducted a reconnaissance at the railway stations of Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Pratapgarh and Mirzapur last year on the instructions of their handlers in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
