Seven fined in Jammu for smoking in public places

Authorities in Jammu have penalised seven persons after they were found smoking in a public place in the city, officials said here on Sunday. The defaulters were fined on Residency Road area of the city during the past two days for breaching Section 4 of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.

The defaulters were fined on Residency Road area of the city during the past two days for breaching Section 4 of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003, they said.

During a joint special drive, the team of food safety department and drugs and food control organisation realised Rs 1200 from the defaulters as fine.

As per the provisions of the act, smoking in public places is a punishable offence.
