Expressing concern over infant deaths in the GB Pant Children's Hospital here, the Committee on Estimates of Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly has directed the health authorities to submit factual report of these deaths by June 20.

Officials here said that the committee met here on Friday under the chairmanship of Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, a ruling National Conference (NC) MLA from Handwara and discussed several public important issues for immediate redressal by the government.

The meeting took serious note on infant death issue of GB Pant Hospital and directed concerned health authorities to take all measures for improving healthcare facilities in the hospital.

It also instructed concerned authorities to submit the factual report of these infant deaths by June 20, for further discussion in the meeting.

The meeting decided to examine the report in its next meeting to be held on June 26, for its recommendations to the government.

About 400 infants died in the hospital since January this year, evoking massive protests, forcing authorities to shift the medical superintendent, some doctors, paramedical staff and others.

The government has also appointed director SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) to probe the infant deaths in the GB Pant Hospital.
