Delay in police action claimed the life of a Class-7 student, who tormented over harassment by two youths, committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Kansal on Saturday.

According to the victim’s brother, he had informed the police about the harassment by the youths the day after Dussehra. However, they failed to act on his complaint.
It was only two days after the suicide that police arrested the accused — Vinod, 19, and Sushil, 20, both residents of Kansal village in SAS Nagar and natives of Uttar Pradesh. They have been booked under section 305 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC, and would be produced before the court on Tuesday.
The 15-year-old victim’s brother alleged that the duo had been harassing his sister for over two months. However, the police kept dilly dallying the matter, which allowed the youths to continue with their delinquencies. The youths even tried to touch her several times due to which she refrained from stepping out.
On the other hand, Nayagaon SHO Raghubir Singh denied having received any written complaint from the victim’s family.
SAS Nagar superintendent of police Harpal Singh said he was not aware of the complaint, but if there was any delay by the police, action would be initiated against the guilty.
