Two booked for thrashing cops at Ram Darbar

The injured cops have been identified as sub-inspector Balwinder Singh and head constable Ramesh Chand. Ramesh had got a fracture in his left leg. The accused have been identified as Akash Bakra and Deepak Kumar, who are on the run.
As per the police, the accused were creating a ruckus and were signalled to stop by Balwinder around 11.45 pm. Ramesh was standing at a distance when he saw Balwinder being thrashed.
Ramesh said, "Near Vishwakarma temple, we spotted two youngsters riding a motorcycle without helmets. They were drunk. They were signalled to stop, but they entered into a verbal spat and attacked Balwinder." When Ramesh went to Balwinder's rescue, he too was pushed and his left leg hit a stone lying on the road.
The injured cops were rushed to General Hospital-16 in a police van. Ramesh will undergo a minor surgery for the fracture. Sub-inspector Balwinder was discharged after treatment from the hospital.
Sources said Bakra had been arrested twice in two liquor smuggling cases. A case was registered at Sector 31 police station against the accused, who managed to flee away from the spot.
