Two cops killed in attack by militants in Pulwama

Two policemen were killed after unidentified militants attacked a police van stationed outside a court in South Kashmir's Pulwama district, around 30 kilometres, from here.

Two policemen were killed when unidentified militants fired upon a police van parked outside a court in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday.

"The militants opened gunfire on a police vehicle near the court complex that falls under the jurisdiction of the Pulwama police station. Two SPOs (a driver and an attendant) were critically injured and were rushed to a nearby hospital where two of them were declared dead on arrival. Another cop who suffered serious injuries survived", a police official said.

According to sources, the two militants who were in police uniform fired on the vehicle from a close range.

"A wreath laying ceremony was held in Pulwama to pay homage to the deceased SPOs, Farooq Ahmad Mirand Mukhtar Ahmad Wani. Immediately after the incident senior officials including Kashmir IGP AG Mir visited Pulwama, a statement issued by the police said.

Army personnel, the police and the CRPF have cordoned off the area and have launched a hunt to nab the attackers.
