UHBVN detects 13,913 cases of power pilferage

Intensifying its campaign to curb theft of power, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) checked 82,525 consumer premises and detected 13,913 cases of pilferage of power upto September.this year.

Intensifying its campaign to curb theft of power, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) checked 82,525 consumer premises and detected 13,913 cases of pilferage of power upto September.this year.

A spokesperson said here on Wednesday that the Nigam imposed penalty of Rs 34.76 crore on the erring consumers and recovered Rs 18.17 crore from them. In as many as 3,595 cases, the complaints had been lodged with the police.

He said that in most of the cases, the erring consumers were found stealing power through direct connections, meter bypass, tampering the meter or by managing fake meter seals.

The electricity meters of 18,364 consumers were found defective during the checking and 17,337 had been replaced,he added.

In order to minimise theft of electricity the Nigam had planned to arrange special camps in villages to release on the spot connections to domestic category consumers. It had been decided to arrange two camps in each operation sub division in a month.
