Closure of schools was announced and prohibitory measures were clamped in several districts of Karnataka on Monday as the state readied itself for the high court’s judgment in the hijab row case, which will be delivered on March 15. A three-judge bench of the high court, headed by chief justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, will pronounce the verdict in the high-profile case.

Thus far, officials in the following districts have imposed prohibitory orders to avoid any possible law and order situation in the wake of Tuesday’s order:

(1.) Bengaluru: According to an order issued by Police Commissioner Kamal Pant, all gatherings, demonstrations, protests, agitations etc. in public places across the state capital are banned till March 21.

(2.) Dakshina Kannada: All schools and colleges in the district will remain closed tomorrow, announced Deputy Commissioner Rajendra KV. Also, while external exams will be held as scheduled, all internal exams have been postponed, the DC further said.

(3.) Udupi: Kurma Rao M, the District Magistrate, has ordered closure of all schools and colleges for March 15.

(4.) Shivamogga: Superintendent of Police, BM Laxmi Prasad, informed that all educational institutions will remain closed on Tuesday, adding that Section 144 will be in place across the district till March 21. Giving details of the security arrangement, the officer said that as many as 8 companies of the Karnataka State Reserve Police, 6 companies of the District Armed Reserve and a company of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed.

The city witnessed violence last month after the murder of a Bajrang Dal worker, Harsha.

(5.) Kalaburagi: The district administration has imposed Section 144 till 6am on March 19, besides closing all educational institutes for tomorrow.
