WATCH: Man's video on differences between Bengaluru and Uttara Karnataka Kannada is leaving the internet in splits
In a viral video, a man called Singhavaru amused netizens by going over the differences between Bengaluru Kannada and North Karnataka Kannada.
A hilarious video by Haarnnit Singh Keer on the differences between Kannada spoken in Bengaluru and Uttara Karnataka is doing the rounds on the internet, leaving netizens amused.
His Instagram page, called ‘Singhavaru’, has a bio which says “You can get the Sardar out of Bengaluru, but you can’t get Bengaluru out of the Sardar.” Keer currently stays in Great Britain.
KKeer went over a few words that are spoken entirely differently in the two regions of the state. While Bengaluru Kannada has a sophisticated tone, North Karnataka's Kannada has prominent linguistic features which take influence from various other dialects including Tulu, Konkani, Rajasthani language Lambadi (spoken by Lambanis or Banjaras), and even Marathi and Telugu from neighbouring states.
Keer explains that Bengalureans say ‘Entu Mukkhalu’ to denote the time 8.45 -- 45 minutes past 8 -- but North Kannadigas say ‘Poune Ombathu’, taking influence from Hindi.
The Twitter page for Belagavi posted the video which was originally shared on Instagram. Watch the hilarious video here:
Keer's video won hearts in the pro-Kannada fraternity, who lauded his effort and zeal in picking up the local language instead of insisting on speaking in his own mother tongue.
