Police clearance mandatory to rent house in Mysuru

According to the new rental policy, the house owners will have to get a clearance certificate from any nearby police station before renting out their places.

Days after the autorickshaw blast triggered security alert in the state, the Mysuru police on Saturday, made it mandatory for residents to get a clearance certificate for renting properties.The development comes after the police probe pointed out that the blast accused Mohammad Shariq had rented a house in Mysuru using a fake identity, the police said.

According to the new rental policy, the house owners will have to get a clearance certificate from any nearby police station before renting out their places.

Police commissioner Ramesh Banoth on Saturday said that the landlords before approving a tenant for their houses or rooms, will fill out a ‘Suraksha form’, with an application fee of ₹100. “There are separate applications for bachelors, family and paying guest (PG) owners,” he said.

As per the application document, the tenants will be asked to share details like name, father’s name, age, gender, address, a photo of the tenant, address of workplace and phone number among others details.

The forms will also have to be accompanied by a photocopy of any one of the tenants’ identities like Aadhaar card, passport, ration card, driving license or electoral photo identity card.

After the forms are filled with both the landlord and the prospective tenant as signatures, it needs to be submitted to the local police station, following which the police will verify the details and provide a clearance certificate. The commissioner also said that police has sought the help of Mysuru City Corporation officials to verify the forms submitted by the landlords.

Accused Shariq was staying in Mysuru with an Aadhaar card that identified him as Premraj Hutagi, police probe had found.

Explosive materials like matchboxes, nut bolts, circuits, which are used in making bombs, were stashed away at his residence in Mysuru, Karnataka ADGP Alok Kumar had said. He also said that Mohan Kumar from whom Shariq had rented the property ‘was not aware of these activities’.
