2 held with 400 kg poppy husk in Ludhiana

The accused, Bhagwan Singh and Pawan Kumar, residents of Indira Colony, Machhiwara, were arrested on Garhi Tarkhana Canal Bridge.
“Acting on a tip off, the police stopped a truck, which was coming from Samrala side, for checking. We recovered 400 kg poppy husk from the truck,” said Pragya Jain, superintendent of police (SP).
A case was registered against the duo under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused are being questioned about their supplier, and their truck has been impounded.
Rajasthan man held with 2.6 kg opium
A man was arrested with 2.6 kg opium on Thursday.
The accused, Kalu Singh, 42, is a resident of Jhalawar, Rajasthan.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, city 2) Suhail Qasim Mir said the accused was arrested near Lalton Chowk during a special checking. “He tried to escape after seeing the police party. We arrested him after a chase and recovered 2.6 kg opium from him,”he said.
The accused, a history-sheeter, said he smuggles opium from Rajasthan. A case was registered under sections of the NDPS Act.
