Jalandhar : A day after ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers led by cabinet minister Harbhajan Singh ETO pasted ‘Modi hatao, desh bachao’ posters in Jalandhar, the police on Saturday registered a case against unidentified persons for defacing the public property.

The case has been registered at the New Baradari police station.

Demanding Harbhajan Singh ETO’s dismissal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh said the posters were pasted in gross violation of law.

The BJP leader has written to Punjab governor Banwarilal Purohit and the chief election commissioner over the issue, seeking legal action, including registration of an FIR, against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader.

Chugh, who hails from Punjab, noted that the law bars anyone from publishing election pamphlets or posters which do not bear the name and address of the printer or publisher.

“As the byelection to Jalandhar Lok Sabha is to take place on May 10, such illegal activities of pasting posters without following procedure tantamount to unfair electoral practices for which a strict action is called for,” he said in the letter.

On Thursday, ETO criticised the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre for its ‘dictatorial attitude’, alleging that it has failed the nation, constitution and people on every front.

“We will paste ‘Modi hatao desh bachao’ posters across the country and they (police) can file as many FIRs they want against us. We are not scared of central agencies or FIRs,” the minister had said.
