Akal Takht decree against Mann: SAD to announce next course of action today

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) core committee on Wednesday met at the party’s headquarters in Chandigarh to deliberate on the religio-political situation after the Akal Takht edict declared chief minister Bhagwant Mann “Guru-Dokhi” (anti-Guru) and “Khalsa Panth virodhi” (anti-Khalsa Panth) and summoned all Sikh legislators across the political parties and cabinet ministers before the Akal Takht on June 29 in connection with an anti-sacrilege law recently passed by the state legislature.

The meeting of the party’s top decision-making body, chaired by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, began in the evening and continued late into the night.

A party spokesperson said the deliberations would resume on Thursday, after which the SAD will announce its official stand on the matter.

Speaking to the media before the meeting, Sukhbir alleged that the chief minister had committed an act of beadbi (disrespect) and challenged the authority of the Akal Takht.

“This is a serious matter as the Sikh Panth has been attacked by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP),” he said, demanding that Mann should immediately resign.

He said that the party will announce its next course of action on Thursday.
