Alert passers-by catch female snatchers fleeing with man’s ₹15,200 in Chandigarh

Alert passers-by caught two women who were fleeing on foot after snatching ₹15,200 from a 61-year-old Shimla resident in Manimajra on Wednesday.
The women were identified as Neha, 26, of Pipliwala Town, Manimajra, and Priya, 27, of Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran.
The victim, Bhagmal, told the police that he had an orchard in Bujarli village, Shimla. He said a truck loaded with apples from his orchard was to arrive in Chandigarh on August 25, so he came to the city a day before. After arriving in Manimajra around 7 pm, he was looking for a room to spend the night, when an e-rickshaw stopped near him.
The driver offered to help him find a room nearby, so he boarded the e-rickshaw and two women also got on it with him.
Bhagmal said when they reached near Sheetla Mata Mandir, Shastri Nagar, Manimajra, the two women stopped the e-rickshaw and told him that they needed to speak to him. As he got down to talk to them, one of the women restrained him and the other snatched ₹15,200 cash from his pocket.
As the women tried to flee, Bhagmal raised the alarm, alerting passers-by, who managed to catch them and handed them over to the police.
A case under Section 379-A (snatching) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the IT Park police station against the accused.
20-year-old held for knifepoint robbery bid
In another case, a 20-year-old youth was arrested for attempting to snatch a mobile phone and silver chain at knifepoint near Hanuman Mandir in Hallmajra on Wednesday.
The accused was identified as Govinda, 20, of EWS Colony, Dhanas.
He was arrested on the complaint of Suraj, 19, who lives in Hallomajra and works at scrap dealer’s shop.
Suraj said he was on his way to buy juice around 2 pm, when Govinda approached him and tried to snatch his mobile phone and silver chain. When he resisted, the accused pulled out a knife and held it against his throat. Fearing for his life, Suraj raised the alarm, prompting Govinda to flee. But he was arrested soon after.
He was booked under Section 393 (attempt to commit robbery) of the IPC at the Sector 31 police station.
