Madhya Pradesh’s Anjali Verma on Thursday outclassed Chandigarh’s Madhu Mann 9-1 in the open women’s final to lift the title at the All India Civil Services Tennis Tournament 2022, being organised by the Chandigarh administration’s sports department.

Earlier in the semi-finals, Verma had beaten Vaibhavi Sunil from Delhi 9-5. While Mann had breezed past Sonia from Haryana 9-2.

National Lok Adalat on March 12

Chandigarh National Legal Services Authority, under the leadership of justice Uday Umesh Lalit, Supreme Court of India, and National Legal Services Authority executive chairman will organise the National Lok Adalat at all levels from sub-division level courts to Supreme Court on March 12 during which 1,717 cases and 22,900 pre-litigation cases will be taken up. 15 benches headed by the serving judicial officers would be constituted to dispose of cases in the Chandigarh district courts.

Panel discussion on India’s achievements held at PU

Chandigarh Panjab University’s dean college development council (DCDC) on Thursday organised a panel discussion on “India’s Achievements at 75” as a part of the Iconic Week celebration of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. PU vice-chancellor Raj Kumar highlighted the role of innovation and research in fueling development and sustainability in India amongst the youth, stressing the academia-industry partnership and encouraged the young participants to focus on their talents and startups as a building process of nation.

Open house discussion on NPST at PU

Chandigarh Punjab University’s (PU) department of education, in collaboration with National Council for Teacher Education, New Delhi, on Thursday organised an open house discussion on national professional standards for teachers (NPST), National Education Policy 2020. UT secretary education SS Gill was the guest of honour. NCTE member secretary Kesang Sherpa joined the discussion online. She briefed about how NPST has been launched initially and its development through different phases.

Nights get warmer in Chandigarh

Chandigarh Nights have started getting warmer in Chandigarh as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with minimum temperature rising from 12.9°C on Wednesday to 14.3°C on Thursday.

A western disturbance is active near the region, which is causing cloudy weather at night, leading to higher temperatures. IMD officials said that since summer has started, it is expected that night temperature will keep increasing slowly day by day as well.

Maximum temperature meanwhile went down from 28.9°C on Wednesday to 28.1°C on Thursday. In the next three days maximum temperature will remain between 29°C and 30°C, while minimum temperature will continue to remain around 14°C.

23-yr-old held for stealing auto battery in Mauli Jagran

Chandigarh Police have arrested a 23-year-old for stealing the battery from an auto parked in Mauli Complex on the intervening night of March 8 and March 9. The accused has been identified as Shiv Kumar of Rajiv Colony, Sector 17, Panchkula. An FIR was lodged based on the complaint of Laxmi Narayan of Mauli Complex. The accused was captured committing the crime on CCTV and arrested. A case under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Mauli Jagran police station.

Meanwhile, on the same night, Sarvesh Kumar of Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran, reported that gold and silver jewellery costing between 6-7 lakh was stolen from his house. Police have registered a case against unidentified accused under Sections 380 (theft) and 454 (lurking house trespass) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Mauli Jagran police station. No arrest has been made yet.
