At 37.5°C, Dharamshala sees hottest day in 13 years

With the mercury rising to a record-breaking 37.5°C, Dharamshala witnessed the hottest day in 13 years on Monday.

The hill station, which is a tourist favourite for its cool climate, has been recording a temperature above 37 degrees for three consecutive days.

Over the last two days, Dharamshala was sweltering at 37.2°C. The last time the mercury rose so high was June 2009.

Shimla meteorological centre director Surender Paul said the maximum and minimum temperatures in the state were above normal, and a yellow alert had been issued for Tuesday as well. The temperature crossed the 40-degree mark at many places across the state, with Una recording a high of 44.2°C, followed by 40.7°C at Dhaulakuan in Sirmaur, 40.4°C in Barthin in Bilaspur, and 40.1°C in Hamirpur. Tourist destinations Palampur and Dalhousie recorded a temperature of 34.5°C and 28°C, respectively. In the state capital, Shimla, the maximum temperature was 28.4°C, while Narkanda and Kufri recorded 22.9°C and 22.7°C, respectively.

The meteorological department has forecast light rain in the middle hills and rain and snow in the high hills on Wednesday.
