Chandigarh: Masked youths throw ink at BJP office in Zirakpur

Eyewitnesses said the youngsters suddenly entered the office, created a ruckus before splashing ink inside the premises

Zirakpur on Monday and threw black ink on walls, posters, mirrors and photographs inside the premises before fleeing, police said. No injuries were reported.

The incident came on a day when similar instances of vandalism were reported at the saffron party’s offices in Amritsar and Ludhiana.

Eyewitnesses said the youngsters suddenly entered the office, created a ruckus before splashing ink inside the premises. They also allegedly vandalised a photo of BJP leader Gurdarshan Saini before escaping.

Saini said he was in Dera Bassi at the time of the incident. “Party workers told me that the youngsters had something in their pockets. They threw ink on posters and the mirror inside the office. People sitting inside immediately came out, but the youngsters ran away,” he said.

Saini alleged that the incident was an attempt to intimidate political workers during election season. “What the Trinamool Congress did during elections in Bengal, the government here is trying to do the same. Such incidents are being used to create fear among political workers,” he said. Police officials reached the office soon after receiving information and collected closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the office and vicinity.
