Chandigarh mayor takes up share-wise property sale with UT adviser
Chandigarh mayor further explained that none of these citizens had violated any law of the land or rules set by the administration
Chandigarh mayor Anup Gupta on Friday took up the issue of share-wise sale and purchase of properties with UT adviser Dharam Pal.
The mayor said, “The city residents sell and purchase shares with earnings and service of their entire life, and most of these families are under bank loans for these purchases and are also dependent on pension for their sustenance. Also, some families wish to sell their shares of property for the education of their children, their own health and treatment, marriages of their children and also for their own financial security in their old age.”
“These families have accumulated their earnings to ensure that they have a roof over their heads for their life and also be able to meet their family commitments with grace and dignity,” the mayor said, while questioning how does a person living on rent or having their own share affect population density.
The mayor further explained that none of these citizens had violated any law of the land or rules set by the administration. The area, height of building and other factors were same for both property owners and tenants.
Besides this, the mayor also requested the adviser for permission for provision of temporary or retractable roof in the open central courtyards in the showrooms at Sectors 7, 8 and 26, citing that it did not amount to additional FAR.
On January 10, the Supreme Court had ruled that first 30 sectors of Chandigarh carried the heritage status of Le Corbusier zone and, therefore, conversion of residential houses into floor-wise apartments cannot be permitted in these sectors.
Subsequently, hundreds of share-wise property agreements had been declared null and void.
