As many as 10 stolen motorcycles have been recovered from the accused, identified as Gulshan, 28, and Harpreet Singh, 19.

According to police, both are addicted to heroin and turned to crime to fulfil their need of drugs.

Talking about their modus operandi, investigators said the duo broke the side lock of the motorcycle and removed the electric plug, before making off with it.

They said Gulshan had previously also been arrested in three cases of vehicle theft and NDPS act by the Ferozepur police.

Accident led to their arrest

The accused were arrested following a tip-off that a man involved in lifting vehicles in Chandigarh had met with an accident near Khanna. Acting upon this information, a police team from Chandigarh arrested Gulshan and later Harpreet from Makhu in Ferozepur. Through their questioning, police recovered 10 motorcycles stolen from Chandigarh and Mohali.

Also sold motorcycles to a gangster

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had sold four stolen motorcycles to a gangster, Aman, who is lodged in the high-security jail in Ferozepur. Aman is named in a Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act case in Karnal and an RDX recovery case in Ferozepur. Police said they will be bringing Aman to Chandigarh on production warrant.
