Ludhiana: FIR lodged after post-mortem report suggests driver was beaten to death
The victim’s employer had told his family members that he died of cardiac arrest but the post-mortem report suggested that the driver was beaten to death
Three days after the death of a combine harvester driver, the postmortem report suggested that he was beaten to death. Following the post-mortem report, the Jodhan police lodged a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against unidentified assailants.
Earlier, the combine harvester owner informed the family members of the victim that he died of cardiac arrest. The victim has been identified as Dulla Singh, 32, of Abuwal village, Sidhwan Bet.
The FIR has been lodged following the statement of Chiman Singh, brother of the victim. Chiman stated that his younger brother Dulla Singh had started working as a driver with combine harvester owner Hardeep Singh of Gujjarwal village 15 days ago. Joga Singh of Rahone Kalan village was his assistant.
Chiman stated that on April 24, Dulla was harvesting the crops in the field of Manmeet Singh. At 10.30 pm someone informed their elder brother, Balvir Singh that Dulla has suffered a cardiac arrest and they are taking him to hospital. At 11 pm they received another call that Dulla had died.
Chiman said Hardeep asked him to inform the police that his brother had died of cardiac arrest, and he followed. Meanwhile, the police sent the body to the civil hospital for a post-mortem. The post-mortem report suggested that he was beaten to death.
Inspector Sikandar Singh, SHO at police station Jodhan, said that after the post-mortem report, the police lodged an FIR under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC against unidentified accused.
The inspector added that the police are investigating the matter from all aspects. Dulla was married, but his wife was not living with him following a matrimonial dispute.

On Thursday, the victim’s kin staged a protest outside the Sidhwan Bet police station. They demanded a murder case against the assailants.
As the matter came to the knowledge of the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Ludhiana rural, Navneet Singh Bains, he intervened in the matter. Following his intervention, the Jodhan police added Section 302 (murder) of the IPC in the FIR. According to the SHO, the police have rounded up some of the suspects and are questioning them.
