Cross-border arms module busted in Ferozepur, five Glock pistols seized
Weapon supplier, who was released from jail just a month ago, was intercepted before he could deliver the smuggled weapons to criminal operatives.
The counter-intelligence wing of Punjab Police has busted a cross-border illegal arms trafficking racket after arresting its key weapon supplier in Ferozepur and recovering five .30 bore Glock pistols along with cartridges.
Director general of police Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday identified the weapon supplier as Lakhwinder Singh of Khehra Ke Uttar village in Ferozepur.
Lakhwinder had been released from jail just a month ago.
Preliminary investigations indicate the seized weapons were smuggled into India from across the border and were meant to be funneled through an illicit network to the ground operatives of criminal gangs under instructions from an unidentified handler.
The arrest followed an operation executed by the counter-intelligence unit in the Kulgarhi area of Ferozepur.
Assistant inspector general of the counter-intelligence wing Gursewak Singh said the police acted on inputs regarding Lakhwinder’s trafficking activities and the consignment of sophisticated weapons was recovered from him.
Following the recovery, a case was registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Kulgarhi police station.
The police are continuing their investigation to map both forward and backward linkages in the network to identify all individuals associated with the module.
