Domestic help sedates, robs petrol pump owner’s family in Ludhiana

The accused, Bahadur, who hails from Nepal, was in the employ of Ashok Sachdeva, who owns a petrol pump and is also the chairperson of the Petroleum Dealers’ Association.

Around a month after he was hired, a domestic worker sedated his employers and robbed the house of cash and jewellery with the help of his aides on August 22, police said on Thursday.

The accused, Bahadur, who hails from Nepal, was in the employ of Ashok Sachdeva, who owns a petrol pump and is also the chairperson of the Petroleum Dealers’ Association.

In his complaint, Sachdeva, 62, a resident of Rajguru Nagar, said that on August 22, he was having dinner with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law when his wife lost consciousness. His son and daughter-in-law rushed her to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Later, he, too, felt dizzy and went to the hospital with his driver. “After some time, my son and daughter-in-law, too, started feeling unwell,” he said.

CCTV (closed-circuit television) footage shows Bahadur, and his two unidentified aides fleeing the house with bags stuffed with cash, jewellery and other valuables. The family, which is still recuperating, is yet to ascertain the approximate value of the loot.

Assistant sub-inspector Bhupinder Singh, who is investigating the case, said a case has been registered under Section 381 (theft by employee), 328 (administering drug with intent to commit offence), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 ( acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The police have formed teams to arrest the accused.

May 8: A Nepalese couple along with their three aides targeted the house of retired assistant inspector general Kamaljit Singh Dhillon in Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar.They decamped with cash, jewellery, mobile phones and imported watches after lacing family members’ food with sedatives.

April 29: A domestic help stole 4 lakh and a gold ring from the house of her employer in Model Town.

March 10: Four days after being hired, a domestic help attempted to rob his employer’s house in G- block of Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar. However, the owner of the house foiled the robbery bid by the alerting the neighbours.

February 16:  A Nepalese domestic help and his three aides robbed 7.50 lakh , gold and diamond jewellery from the house of his employer in Sun View Colony, Ayali Kalan village.

January 20: A Nepalese cook stole cash from the house from his employer in Urban Estate, Phase-1, Dugri.

January 18: A Nepalese house help robbed his employer in Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar and decamped with cash, jewellery and other valuables.
