Police have arrested a Kharar resident for stealing a gold bangle from a Sector-22 shop where he is employed.

Police said, Bittu Verma, the manager of Durga Trading Company in Sector 22, alleged that their employee, Baldeep Singh of MC Colony, Kharar, stole a gold bangle weighing 28.27 gm on July 25.

The complainant said the CCTV footage showed Singh stealing the bangle, which he said cost around 1.65 lakh, from its tray and carrying it with him while leaving the shop. On detecting the theft, he filed a police complaint.

A case under Section 381 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was subsequently registered at the Sector-17 police station.

Following a probe, police arrested Singh on Monday. He was presented before a court on Tuesday and sent to a one-day police remand.

Police said the accused had been working at the shop since January 2021.
