Man dies after Delhi-bound bus overturns near Ludhiana’s Doraha

A factory worker died and three others suffered minor injuries after a passenger bus, coming from Jammu’s Katra and going towards Delhi, overturned on the service lane of the national highway near Doraha on Friday morning.

The driver of the bus, identified as Nirmal Singh, fled from the spot after the incident. The Doraha police lodged an FIR against the driver.
The victim has been identified as Inderjit Singh of Doraha. He was returning home from a factory at Sohi village after a night shift.
Sub-inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO at police station Doraha, said that the bus was coming from Mata Vaishno Devi, Katra in Jammu and going towards Delhi. As many as 19 passengers were travelling in the bus.
The SHO said that when the bus was crossing from Doraha, the driver fell asleep and lost control over the vehicle. The bus crushed Inderjit to death. After jumping over the divider, the bus turned over at the service lane.
After the incident, the locals gathered at the spot and rescued the passengers.
According to the SHO, three passengers of the bus suffered minor injuries, who were discharged from the hospital after administering first aid.
One of the passengers, Devraj Mishra, said that the driver was sleepy. He was washing his face repeatedly to remain awake. The passengers had asked him not to drive if he was not feeling well, but he kept on driving.
The SHO said that a case of reckless driving, causing death due to negligence has been lodged against the bus driver following the complaint of Harvinder Singh, brother of the victim.
