Goindwal jail assault: Injured inmate’s kin demand preservation of CCTV footage

TARN TARAN: The family members of one of the three injured inmates of Goindwal Central jail have demanded the preservation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of the day when they were allegedly assaulted by gangster Deepak Tinu and his aides.
Three inmates— Aman, Karanpreet and Munish— were injured when gangster Tinu, who is also one of the prime suspects in Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder, along with one Mandeep Singh alias Manna and their associates attacked them with sharp objects on Sunday evening.
Aman’s mother Kuldeep Kaur, a Jalandhar resident, has written a letter to Punjab director general of police (DPG) Gaurav Yadav demanding justice for her son. She alleged that gangster Tinu and Manna had hatched the conspiracy to kill her son in collusion with Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist Lakhbir Singh alias Landa at the instance of Gaurav Pandit of Jalandhar.
Kuldeep Kaur in the letter alleged, that her son, who is admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar, during treatment told her that gangster Tinu was shifted to the cell by a senior jail official where 26 associates of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Lawrence Bishnoi gang are already staying.
“The conspiracy to kill my son and his friend Karanpreet was hatched via video calls in the prison. At the time of the assault, the jailed accused had made a group video call to Gaurav and one Dalbir Singh, who is lodged in another jail, to show the live coverage of the attack,” she said in the letter.
Alleging gross negligence in the prison, she further wrote that a few days ago, gangster Tinu and his associates in the jail had tried to attack my son.
“However, my son somehow managed to escape and complained about it to a senior jail official. Instead of taking action against the accused, the official lodged my son and his friend Karanpreet separately in another cell. Had the jail official taken timely action, the attack on my son could have been averted. My son has told that the jailed official was also helping the accused,” she further alleged.
She demanded that a thorough probe should be conducted by a magistrate to unravel the truth behind the assault which has again disclosed the security chinks of the prison.
Goindwal jail’s superintendent Lalit Kohli termed the allegations baseless. “The allegations are baseless. No mobile phone has been recovered from any of the accused involved in the clash. The family of Aman have levelled allegations in a grudge against a particular officer who used to stop them from breaking the prison rules,” Kohli said.
Meanwhile, Aman’s mother said her son and two other injured inmates were also nominated as accused in the first information report (FIR) filed after the assault.
