Days after the rape of a four-year-old girl at a Gurdaspur school and the subsequent arrest of the chairman, representatives of CBSE-affiliated schools association (CASA) and confederation of unaided schools and colleges of Punjab on Monday demanded his release.

At a press conference in Jalandhar, they said the main accused was roaming scot-free.

Vice-president of the association Jodhraj Gupta and other members said that the police arrested the chairman of the school under pressure from protesters blocking the highway, but now if the police do not release the chairman immediately and punish the main accused, all educational institutions of Punjab will remain closed. Representatives and officials from private educational institutions arrived from different parts of Punjab, including CASA and confederation president Anil Chopra, vice-president,Jodhraj Gupta, joint secretary Sanjeev Maddia and others said that they met the SSP and the DC of Gurdaspur, saying there was no evidence against the chairman and other managers of the school.
