BJP leaders on Monday joined the cleanliness drive in Ambala, Kurukshetra and Karnal launched by the rape convict dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is out on 40-day parole.

BJP’s Thanesar MLA Subhash Sudha’s wife Uma Sudha joined the cleanliness drive in Kurukshetra, just 10km away from Khanpur Kolian village - where dera follower Ranjit Singh was murdered on July 10, 2002. A special CBI court in Panchkula had awarded life imprisonment to all the accused, including the dera chief and four others in the murder case in October 2021. “I have joined the cleanliness drive as thousands of sewadars had come to clean my city,” she said.
In Karnal, BJP’s mayor Renu Bala Gupta along with CM’s Karnal assembly segment representative Sanjay Bathla, senior deputy mayor Rajesh Aghi, and deputy mayor Naveen Kumar inaugurated the campaign by sweeping a road near the old vegetable market.

In Ambala also, several followers of dera carried out the cleanliness drive from Maharaja Agrasen Chowk. BJP MLA Aseem Goel inaugurated the drive by sweeping a road near the bus stand in the presence of several party workers and sect followers.
