Several farmers affiliated to Bhartiya Kisan Union’s (BKU) Charuni faction on Monday protested against the alleged paddy procurement scam in Karnal. Led by union’s president Gurnam Singh Charuni, the farmers gathered near the mini secretariat in Sector 12 and handed over a memorandum to the district administration. Charuni alleged that the government did nothing to stop the paddy procurement scam. “Several senior officials and employees as well as political leaders are involved in this,” he said.

“We are also taking up other issues, like the new electricity bill, new seed law and uneven import of farm products. A rally will be held in Pipli on March 23, on the birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh,” he added.
