Haryana police to launch ‘safe journey’ initiative for women passengers

: To ensure safety of women passengers in the state, the Haryana Police will soon launch ‘safe journey’, an initiative linked to the Haryana 112 helpline platform, director general of police (DGP), Shatrujeet Kapur, said on Wednesday.
Highlighting the importance of this move during a meeting at the ‘Haryana 112 office’ in Panchkula, the DGP said that under this initiative, women can register themselves by dialing 112 and sharing their travel information with the Haryana 112 team in advance.
The woman will have to share some information, including their name, mobile number, place of departure, place of arrival, and expected time of departure and arrival. The Haryana 112 team will then remain in constant contact with the woman until she reaches her destination safely, tracking her location throughout the journey.
During the meeting, the police officers also discussed the creation of a WhatsApp number to provide security to women and keep residents updated about Haryana 112.
ADGP (Telecom-IT) Arshinder Chawla said that Haryana Police are putting stickers on public transport vehicles such as Ola, Uber, and autos that contain the driver’s name, mobile number, and vehicle number.
The database of auto drivers and public transport in the state is expected to be ready by October 31.
An official spokesperson said that in September, Haryana 112 received over 522,000 calls and that the helpline achieved an average response time of eight minutes and 20 seconds for reaching destinations.
