The Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday directed the Punjab transport department to finalise and notify a new time table for the operation of buses in the state within six weeks.

The high court bench of justice Harsimran Singh Sethi said that till the framing of the final time table, the department will be at liberty to issue a temporary time table for smooth operation of the buses, within a period of next seven days.

With regard to operation of the buses till the framing of the temporary time table, the state government gave an undertaking that operation of buses will be allowed on the old time table.

The order was passed on pleas from New Deep Bus Service, New Deep Motors and Neelon Bus Service, who claimed that they were not being allowed to run their buses and illegally denied their constitutional right to trade and profession.

They alleged that the state government was trying to grant undue favour to PRTC and other private operators, who are tax defaulters.
