: A local court on Wednesday extended the police remand of deputy superintendent of Mansa jail and his wife, who were arrested by police for allegedly duping people on the pretext of helping them to secure government jobs, by three more days.

The accused, identified as Narpinder Singh, 35, and his wife Deep Kiran, 35, of Sector 39, Jamalpur were arrested on January 9 and were sent to two days police remand by the court. Sukhdev Singh of Sahnewal and Lakhwinder Singh of Mandi Gobindgarh, who are aides of the accused are still at large.

Inspector Beant Juneja, in charge of CIA staff, said that police are tracking the personal security officer of the accused jail deputy superintendent. Police are trying to recover the money duped from different persons by the duo, which is expected to be around 1cr.

He said that one more complainant has come forward who had given over 2 lakh to the duo for a job in a court. He said that a total of 8 complainants have come forward till now.

Police said the accused’s wife would pose as a magistrate while targeting the victims. Three police uniforms, two forged joining letters, Punjab police recruitment forms, and 1lakh was recovered from them.
