Special police officer Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, posted at Larnoo Anantnag police station, allegedly took ₹18,000 as bribe for releasing documents of vehicle, says J&K Anti Corruption Bureau
The J&K Anti Corruption Bureau has arrested a special police officer (SPO) in south Kashmir’s Anantnag for taking ₹18,000 as bribe for releasing documents of vehicle, officials said on Sunday.
The accused’s house was also searched in the presence of executive magistrates and independent witnesses
Officials said SPO Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, posted at Larnoo Anantnag police station, was caught red-handed and the bribe amount was recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses.
An ACB spokesperson said a complaint was received on March 26 from person who alleged that his goods carrier was stopped at a police checkpoint at Badihar Bridge where his vehicle documents were taken but didn’t return. Next day, he was asked to pay bribe, the ACP stated.
An FIR under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered in Anantnag. The accused’s house was also searched in the presence of executive magistrates and independent witnesses. “Further investigation of this case is ongoing,” the spokesperson added.
