3 held for drinking in public

Chandigarh Three persons were arrested from different parts of the city for consuming liquor at public places. The accused were identified as Rajesh Verma, 32, of Mauli Jagran, Hannu, 25, of Bapu Dham Colony, Sector-26, and Deepak Kumar, 30, from Una in Himachal. While Rajesh and Hannu were caught drinking at government tubewell, Sector-26, Deepak was arrested from Daria village. They were booked under Section 68-1(B) of Punjab Police Act 2007 and 510 (misconduct in public by drunken person) of Indian Penal Code and later granted bail. HTC

Bar Council marks Constitution Day

Chandigarh The Punjab and Haryana Bar Council observed Constitution Day and National Law Day at the Law Bhawan on Sunday. The theme was‘Sikhiya and Samwidhaan’. Justice Ritu Bahri, judge Punjab and Haryana high court, emphasised on the importance of educating children and reaching out to underprivileged communities to raise awareness on important legal issues. Paragon Sen Sec School holds 37th annual function

Mohali Paragon Senior Secondary School, Sector 71, Mohali, held its 37th annual function ‘Aagaaz-2022’ on Sunday. Mohali district education officer Baljinder Singh was the chief guest and the guest of honour was Punjabi singer Sarthi Kaushik. The highlight of the event was a dance performance by the students on the theme: Corona Victory.The programme culminated with the vote of thanks by school principal Jasmeet Kaur.

Pratyaksh becomes chess champion

Chandigarh Pratyaksh Goel became a champion with 6 points at the conclusion of the 32nd Chandigarh Chess Championship, which was held at the Chandigarh Baptist School, Sector 45, on Sunday. The second position was bagged by Anubhav Tuknayat, who scored 5.5 points. The third and fourth position was bagged by Vedant Garg and Swastik Singhal, respectively, who also scored 5.5 points.

NCC platinum jubilee half-marathon held

Chandigarh The second Chandigarh Battalion NCC along with the Chandigarh Distance Runners (CDR) organised the NCC Platinum Jubilee Half-Marathon on Sunday on behalf of Punjab, Haryana,Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh NCC Directorate. The Punjab governor and UT administrator Banwari Lal Purohit flagged off the marathon at Chandigarh Club. Around 1,200 people from all walks of life participated in the half-marathon.

GGSCW-26 student shines in boxing

CHANDIGARH Ravina, a first-year student at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women (GGSCW), Sector 26, Chandigarh, won the Youth World Boxing Championship 2022, being held in Spain, the college said on Sunday.The Indian pugilist who was in the red corner thwarted her opponent in the blue corner, Megan De Cler (Netherlands) in the finals of the 60-63 kg category. College principal Dr Jatinder Kaur congratulated Ravina on her impressive win.
